Sea Kayaks Brief History:
Originally designed for ocean travel, sea kayaks have exploded inland for a multitude of reasons:
Vastly superior performance, an ability to handle big/rough water conditions, precise paddler fit, additional load capacity, and optimum safety. These factors combine to make sea kayaks more versatile than the other types of kayaks. Few things are as lovely to look at, or as joyful to paddle as a long, narrow, exquisitely designed and pristinely finished sea kayak. A typical solo sea kayak will range from 15 to 18 feet, is narrow (19 to 24 inches) and is efficient to paddle. Tandem Sea Kayaks (doubles) start about 17 feet and can easily reach 23 feet in length. Unlike other types, optimum paddler fit is essential. Accordingly Sea Kayaks are constructed with a paddlers specific size, weight and long term skills development and aspirations in mind. North American kayaks generally have straighter keel lines and include a steerable rudder system, while British & Greenland Kayaks tend to have more rockered (curved) hulls and include a retractable skeg system.
Sea Kayaks can be the perfect choice for a wide range of novice to expert paddlers who wish to improve skills long term:
I.E.: edge, brace, roll, be more adventurous, or just paddle more efficiently with the highest safety level possible.
