Delta 18.5 Expedition Kayaks

18.5 Expedition 18.5 Expedition

Delta Kayaks 18.5, Heralded as the longest thermoformed kayak single in the industry, the Expedition version also promises the most overall storage and largest paddler weight capacity of any North American built sea kayak... quite a claim! The boats shallow ‘V' hull and long waterline length provide a high degree of primary stability and tracking, perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers seeking a fast but stable kayak. Delta's 18.5 also incorporates aggressive soft chined sides and a vertical wall, which provides an almost endless degree of secondary stability and edging. A fully rockered hull allows even intermediate paddlers the ability to turn on a dime and look great doing it!

On Deck, large hatches offer immense storage, while the rear deck is engineered to be low aft of the cockpit to enhance layback rolls, then rises to maximize storage in the stern compartment. ALL Delta kayak seats are adjustable 4 inches (forward or aft) to optimize performance and paddler fit. More importantly, Delta uses Seadog Gas Peddle Style rudder system (vastly superior to sliding peddle systems) as it gives paddlers the ability to brace and steer independently

STANDARD FEATURES:

Built using computer assisted designs and a patented acrylic Solar*Kote Thermoform capstock that is virtually indestructible and UV protected, (TSC) Total Seat Control facilitates trimming the ergonomic seat a full 4 -inches, comprehensive deck rigging with reflective perimeter lines, comfort grip handles that stay warm, expedition sized hatches for easy loading, Seadog Gas Peddle style foot peddles for independent steering / bracing. Sea Kayaker Magazine Quotes (Apr. 08 Edition):

Stability: "Initial stability was rated "moderate to high" (GL). "Rock solid" (MK). The secondary stability was "excellent" (TE). Maneuverability: (TE) was "amazed how at how well the Delta 18.5 turned for being such a long boat". Speed: "Considering the size of the boat I was surprised to find that I could quickly reach 5 knots and cruise comfortably at well over 4 knots" (MK). Rolling & Rescue: "This boat rolls like a dream". The cockpit is large enough for a person of my size to exit without any barking off the shins (MK). Cruising: "Two enormous hatches look to me like a two- to three-week trip in the making" (MK). Bottom Line: "The 18.5 is a remarkable achievement for a big thermoformed kayak. It looks good, has room for plenty of gear and is very well mannered in the wind. It's a good choice for an expedition paddler. Delta got a lot of things right" (TE).

Kayak Touring Magazine (07 Edition):

Comfort: "Great Fit in the thighs and hips. The seat is padded, and the back band gives plenty of support. The Delta Eighteen 5 has a very large cockpit and will provide plenty of room for larger paddlers"
Bottom Line: "The Mini-Van of the kayak set, there's plenty of room for gear, it's stable and easy to handle, and it will likely get a lot of use"
