Zegul Marine Greenland GT Kayak Review
At a glance Zegul’s Greenland 17/10 ‘GT’ looks almost identical to its famous smaller sibling except for its wider 21” beam. Upon closer inspection however, you will notice a number of other differences:
The ‘GT’ model also includes a much larger keyhole style cockpit so us medium to larger paddlers can rejoice… or should we say exhale! A larger oval VCP style stern hatch now exists along with the addition of a new 6-inch day hatch & 3rd bulkhead. Lastly, Zegul has introduced an ‘Alligator Skin pattern' that has been molded right into the ‘GT’s composite deck (Ref. 'More About Zegul Kayaks' on our Zegul Kayaks main page).
Thoroughly crafted to be true to its heritage, the ‘GT’s classic lines closely replicate Inuit / Aleut peoples’ original ‘Skin-on-frame’ Greenland designs. Quiet, unobtrusive, efficient and incredibly agile, Zegul’s Greenland kayaks ultra-low sheer line is virtually unaffected by adverse weather conditions. And the feeling of being so close to the water is inspiring.
Zegul’s Greenland kayaks long, narrow, sleek form slices through the water and combines hard-chined sides with a shallow Vee hull for razor sharp tracking. The hull’s moderate rocker and hard chine provide a stable platform for nimble maneuvers and responsive edging.
The larger ‘Keyhole style cockpit’ better enables medium & larger paddlers easy entry & exit, while still providing a snug ‘one-with-boat’ fit. This in turn offers skilled paddlers more refined boat control. Extremely low deck heights both forward and aft enable effortless laidback & forward rolls.
If you have ever considered trying Greenland style paddling or want to see what all the excitement is about, Zegul’s Greenland kayaks offer the ultimate choice. Paddlers can combine easy Greenland style rolls and paddling techniques with the very latest advancements in lightweight composite materials and manufacturing processes.
One of the most well recognized and diverse kayaks on earth, Zegul Kayaks GT might also be the sexiest kayak on the planet… what do you think?
