Getting There
Notes
Launch from the launch point at the end of Big Salmon Lake Road at Big Salmon Lake. Paddle in a westerly direction until you come to the portage at Labelle Lake. Paddle time: 1.5 - 2 hours.
Take the portage across to Labelle Lake. Paddle across Labelle Lake to the portage into the south end of Big Clear Lake. Continue from the Labelle Lake portage north to campsite # 13 in Frontenac Provincial Park. Paddle time: 3-4 hrs. from Big Salmon Lake launch.
Paddle south west to the portage into Black Lake. There is a side paddle from near campsite # 13, north to the portage into Devil Lake's Hardwood Bay).
The paddle continues again from the end of the portage from Big Clear Lake to Black Lake. Continue across Black Lake to the portage connecting Black Lake to Little Salmon Lake.
At the end of the portage, paddle in a south east direction to the portage that connects you back to Big Salmon Lake. Continue to the launch point on Big Salmon Lake.
There are four Frontenac Provincial Park (FPP) campsite areas on this route, each with it's own toilet facilities.

The portages on this route range from easy to very difficult, as discussed below.
The portage from Big Salmon Lake to Labelle Lake, is easy with one small hill.
! Big Salmon Lake to Labelle Lake - 491 meters (1,611 feet).
The portage from Labelle Lake to Big Clear Lake is average with a hill.
! Labelle Lake to Big Clear Lake - 190 meters (624 feet).
The portage from Big Clear Lake to Black Lake is average with a hill.
! Big Clear Lake to Black Lake - 666 meters (2,185 feet).
The portage from Black Lake back to Little Clear Lake is easy and flat.
! Black Lake to Little Clear Lake - 503 meters (1,650 feet).
The portage from Little Clear Lake over to Little Salmon Lake is average with one hill.
! Little Clear Lake to Little Salmon Lake - 856 meters (2,808 feet).
All campsites must be booked through the Frontenac Provincial Park office. Additional information on all park details may be found at the park office.
Sight Seeing
Apart from the spectacular wilderness sites, there are also some further items to see:
1. Near the launch point is the former site of the "Trails End" fishing lodge on Big Salmon Lake.
2. A little over half way between campsite number 3 and campsite number 4 on a point of land on the right side as you paddle towards campsite #4, is Shingle Point where a shingle mill once operated in the 1800s.
3. On the paddle from campsite #13 south west towards the portage into Black Lake, there is an observation point on the right hand side on the hiking trail.
4. Several former homesteads are located near Little Clear Lake. Only one, the Green Homestead, is near to the lake. The other two are located closer to Black Lake.
5. At the far end of Little Salmon Lake on the western shore is the remains of the Amey mica pits.
