General Maintenance:
Plastic, fibreglass and composite kayaks must be shielded from exposure to sunlight over long periods of time such as during storage. The ultraviolet rays in sunlight will over time fade their colours. When not in use, the kayak should be stored in a shaded, protected location.
In addition, it is recommended that a coat of 303 Protectant be applied over the entire surface of the kayak. Repeat this application several times during the paddling season. The seals, orings and rubber compartment covers can also be sprayed with 303 Protectant to maintain their flexibility and prevent cracking and breakdown of the material.
Check kayak fittings regularly. Ensure that the screws are tight and the o-rings are securely in place.

Repairs:
Scratches on the hull of your kayak are inevitable. A boat without scratches has never been used. Here are some tips on dealing with scratches.
Composite and Fibreglass Kayaks.
Scratches do not need to be repaired unless some of the fibre is exposed. Superficial scratches will disappear under a coat of polish. Deep scratches may be coated with Gelcoat Polyester Paint in the same the colour as your kayak. Contact us for information on how to obtain the paint. After a little sanding and polishing, your kayak will look brand new.
Plastic Kayaks.
Scratches are impossible to remove from polyethylene by sanding and polishing. If the hull is deeply gouged or punctured, it will have to be welded with polyethylene. In such a case, we recommend that you contact us for advice.
If a plastic kayak has become deformed, place it in direct sunlight for a few days. Polyethylene is a memory compound that tends to return to its original shape. The gentle heat from the sunshine will likely soften to material and help the plastic return to its manufactured shape.
However, if this process is not successful, it may be because the deformation has been present for too long a time. The following procedure will need to be followed:
Place the kayak upright on foam blocks positioned about 1/3 of the length of the kayak between the bow and stern. The blocks should follow the hull contours as much as possible. The blocks should each have a contact area of about 6 inches.
Pour about 5 gallons of very hot water in through the cockpit opening.
Leave for about 10 minutes.
Then press out the bumps or deformations in the hull with your hands. If necessary to access to the bumps, remove the seat.
Leave the water in the kayak for about two hours in order for it to press down on the hull. Then carefully drain the kayak.
